Measuring Supply Chain Flexibility (scf) Considering Inventory Buffers in Uncertain Business Environments

چکیده
Flexibility in supply chain (SC) is desired not only for countering and handling uncertainties but also for planning strategies, to gain competitive edge by the corporate firms. Recently extensive work is being reported in Supply Chain Flexibility (SCF) focussing mainly on its multi dimensional aspects and how to obtain and implement it. However SCF is no free lunch and it may require huge investments to realise its potential benefits. „How much flexibility is required‟, thus becomes the core concern for firms willing to be flexible. This question is rarely discussed in the literature and therefore measuring SCF is a prominent field where research needs to be focused. In this paper we present a mathematical model to evaluate supply chain flexibility at supplier buyer interface with an aim to attain robust supply in all possible scenarios. This is done by designing a SCF measureψ, which reflects flexibility of a nodal firm in SC by considering factors like its minimum lead time, minimum order quantity it takes from downstream, maximum quantity it can supply in case of complete plant disruptions and inventory buffer, it maintains to be flexible. The paper contributes by analysing and evaluating SCF in environment of demand and lead time uncertainties and risk of major plant disruptions while considering inventory buffers to enhance the flexibility of SC.

Application of queuing theory in inventory systems with substitution flexibility
Considering the competition in today’s business environment, tactical planning of a supply chain becomes more complex than before. In many multi-product inventory systems, substitution flexibility can improve profits. This paper aims to prepare a comprehensive substitution inventory model, where an inventory system with two substitute products with ignorable lead time has been considered, and e...
متن کاملInventory Productivity Impacts of IT-Enabled Supply Chain Coordination in Manufacturing Environments
This chapter describes an empirical analysis of the mediating effects of supply chain coordination strategy and manufacturing IT infrastructure on the relationship between business complexity and inventory turnover. Business complexity describes the diversity and volatility associated with a firms product markets. To cope with this complexity, firms deploy inventory buffers. This deployment sh...

Supply chain management in second half recent century extended so much and in current century this extension is continued. One of the scopes that to be interested is extension and adaptation of production and inventory control policy, under just in time philosophy, for material and production control in supply chain. Hence in this paper we will adapt pull-push CONWIP (constant work in process)...
متن کاملThe Design of Inverse Network DEA Model for Measuring the Bullwhip Effect in Supply Chains with Uncertain Demands
Two different bullwhip effects with equal scores may have different sensitivities and production patterns. As a result, the difference between these two seemingly equal scores has been ignored in previous methods (such as frequency response and moving average). So, the present study constructs a model of Inverse Network Data Envelopment Analysis, to introduce the relative and interval scores of...
